Was I really "disturbing the peace"?

Unfortunately the way things are today this is what it has come down to. So many wack jobs are out there shooting people, buildings, etc that they have to check you. I don't know that you should have been fined or charged with disturbing the peace - I think you can probably fight that and win. I am just wondering is that bag worth the trouble? I know it is different, but I have a beautiful Chanel purse that I can't take certain places....
